In 2020, we are 60 years old! Generations of people have camped, played, hiked, prayed, sang, stayed, and been changed by their experiences with us at Kirkwood.

We welcome all kinds of people here, from all walks of life and all faith backgrounds. We'll be happy to help you plan your retreat, welcome your kids to summer camp, or make sure your wedding goes perfectly (and pop a bottle or two). Kirkwood is rustic and not for everyone--but for many families, groups, kids, and churches, we are the perfect spot. Kirkwood is owned and operated by the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Our mission is to build bridges which connect people to God, creation and each other.

For many groups, this looks differently; we start with hospitality, and go from there.

Also, our 300 acres of forest is really super, and we are super into the outdoors.

Our year-round staff is small, but we love Kirkwood and do what it takes to make sure our guests and summer campers are happy. Our summer season staff usually numbers over 20. Regardless of the season, we want you to have a great experience.

My daughters absolutely love going to Kirkwood every year. The camp is amazing and gets better every year. They have shared what they have learned at camp with friends and have even asked to have their 13th birthday at the camp...I would recommend this camp for any child that is looking for a camp experience this summer.

We've been hosting events here at Kirkwood for a few years now, and have found it to be a fantastic, welcoming site.

The site is utterly gorgeous, the staff is accommodating, the buildings are well-kept and comfortable. We have made many beautiful memories there.

Great place to spend a weekend.

They seem to be adding more things to do each time I come. The new disc golf course upon entrance to the camp is a great example of them improving the facilities.

Ford Behne
Interim Director

Ford has been with Kirkwood off-and-on since 2017. He joined our staff full time in 2019 as our Program Director and moved into the role of Interim Director in July 2020. Throughout the year, Ford is our main host, and works on preparing our summer camp program for the next season.

Ford is an Appalachian Trail through hiker ('16), and formerly worked at the Sarah Dooley Center for Autism in Richmond, Va. Able to glide through the woods like a friendly ghost, Ford loves the outdoors, coffee, building immense fires (safely!), and working with kids.
